There are stones that suggest a landscape, and then there are pieces of the Earth that seem to hold an entire journey through time.

Somewhere began with an extraordinary ammonite fossil, its ancient spiral preserved chamber by chamber and brought to life with brilliant Ammolite inlay. Flashes of emerald green, fiery orange, red, blue and violet appear throughout the fossil, changing as the light moves across its surface.

I was captivated by the contrast: something unimaginably ancient filled with such vivid, living color.

Rather than enclosing the ammonite in a conventional setting, I wanted the silver to respond to its natural spiral. I built the sterling silver setting by hand, allowing the metal to sweep around and beyond the fossil in a continuation of its movement. A smaller spiral at the top echoes the form once again, carrying that ancient geometry into the structure of the pendant itself.

The result became Somewhere—a piece that feels to me as though it belongs simultaneously to the past and to someplace beyond it.

Ammonites lived in prehistoric seas millions of years ago. Their spiral shells remain one of nature's most recognizable forms, while Ammolite brings extraordinary flashes of color to this particular specimen. Together, they gave me something I could never have designed first and then searched for materials to fit.

The material had to lead the design.

That relationship is at the heart of my work: discovering something remarkable created by the Earth and building the silver around the story I see within it.

Somewhere was created as a one-of-a-kind work and has since found its collector. It sold for $895, and the design was never duplicated.
