Serenity — Beach Series #16

One-of-a-Kind Blue Wood Opal Statement Necklace

Collected Work — Sold for $899

Some jewelry is meant to accessorize. Serenity was created to become part of the woman who wears it—a one-of-a-kind piece for someone who would rather wear art than something everyone else can own.

The moment I saw this extraordinary Blue Wood Opal, I saw a landscape.

Soft aqua and turquoise-blue tones move across the upper portion of the stone like water meeting an open sky, while layers of cream, ochre and deep earth tones gather below like a distant shoreline. The scene was already there. My job was not to change it, but to listen to what the stone was showing me and continue its story in silver.

I built the pendant entirely by hand in sterling silver. Behind the opal, textured silver sweeps in curling patterns reminiscent of wind and moving water, accented by a small warm-toned stone that glows against the cooler landscape.

Below, individually formed lengths of silver flow freely from the pendant like streams of water. Each ends in a tiny melted silver droplet, giving the piece movement even when it is being worn.

And I didn't stop designing when I reached the pendant.

I created the gemstone chain specifically for Serenity, combining substantial pieces of Amazonite with Carnelian and Jasper, connecting the stones with silver. The colors continue the landscape within the Blue Wood Opal—the watery blue-green of Amazonite, the warm red of Carnelian and the earthy natural tones of Jasper.

Turn Serenity over and there is another surprise.

The reverse was finished as intentionally as the front, with additional textured sterling silver and a small sculptural ammonite tucked into the design—a private detail known mostly to the woman wearing it. My artist's mark completes the back.

This is something I love about creating collector-level jewelry: the entire piece matters. The unusual stone, the silverwork, the chain, the movement, and even the parts most people may never see are all part of the artwork.

Serenity is #16 in my Beach Series and was created only once. It will never be duplicated.

Wellness, Healing & Symbolism

Blue Wood Opal carries the visual character of both earth and water, making it especially fitting for a piece named Serenity. Opal has traditionally been associated with creativity, emotional expression and intuition, while the blues and earth tones in this unusual stone evoke calm, openness and connection to the natural world.

Amazonite, with its beautiful blue-green coloring, has traditionally been associated with tranquility, balance and communication. Its watery color makes it especially meaningful within Serenity's shoreline-inspired design.

Carnelian has traditionally symbolized vitality, courage and creative energy. Its warm coloring provides a beautiful counterpoint to the cooler Amazonite and Blue Wood Opal.

Jasper is often considered a grounding stone and has long been associated with stability, endurance and connection to the Earth.

Silver has been valued throughout history not only for its beauty but also for its associations with the moon, intuition and reflection.

Together, the materials in Serenity create a symbolic meeting of water and earth, movement and stillness, energy and calm.

Stone meanings are based on historical and metaphysical traditions and are offered for inspiration and personal reflection.
