  Blue Horizon

Some pieces of jewelry are meant to blend in. Blue Horizon was never going to be one of them.

There is something almost dreamlike within this piece of Maligano Jasper. Layers of smoky gray, soft blue and darker markings seem to create a distant landscape—as though you're looking toward a horizon just before the sky changes.

That's what stopped me when I first saw the stone.

And it's what eventually gave this piece its name: Blue Horizon.

Maligano Jasper is one of those stones that makes my job as an artist especially interesting because nature has already done so much of the work. No two pieces carry the same patterns, colors or tiny landscapes. I don't begin by asking how I can make the stone fit one of my designs.

I look at the stone and ask what it wants to become.

I created the silverwork around this particular piece, allowing its natural markings to remain the focus while giving the pendant a design as individual as the stone itself.

But now that Blue Horizon is finished, what I see in the stone isn't nearly as important as what its eventual owner sees.

Perhaps it reminds you of mountains in the distance.

A storm moving across the horizon.

A place you've been.

Or somewhere you'd still like to go.

That's one of the things I love about jewelry created around extraordinary natural stones: the artist may begin the story, but the woman who wears it gets to finish it.

And with Blue Horizon, only one woman ever will.

Wellness & Symbolism

Maligano Jasper is traditionally associated in crystal practices with grounding, balance, transformation and inner strength. Its layered appearance also makes it a beautiful symbolic reminder that our experiences—the easy ones and the difficult ones—become part of who we are.

Perhaps Blue Horizon carries another reminder as well:

There is always something beyond the horizon.
